Its dominion stretches from North America to the sandy shores of Australia, underscoring its unparalleled reach in the world of bull riding, with over 500 riders hailing from diverse countries.
The Las Vegas Legacy
For more than 25 years, the neon lights of Las Vegas, Nevada, have witnessed the heart-stopping drama of the PBR World Finals. The MGM Grand Garden Arena played host from 1994 to 1998, with the action later shifting to the Thomas & Mack Center till 2015. A brief interlude saw the Mandalay Bay Events Center stepping in between 2004 and 2007. By 2016, T-Mobile Arena had taken the baton. But the pandemic in 2020 necessitated a shift to AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The Finals made a grand return to Las Vegas in 2021, but by 2022, the Premier Series took a new turn, both in schedule and venue. The revered PBR World Finals found a new home at the Dickies Arena in Fort Worth. Come 2024, the Finals will crisscross between Dickies Arena, Cowtown Coliseum, and AT&T Stadium, ensuring a panoramic experience across the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex.
Team Dynamics: The PBR Team Series
2024 marked the inception of the PBR Team Series. With eight teams, each composed of seven primary riders and a contingency of five reserve riders, the competition reached a fever pitch. The essence of local pride was evident, with eight events set in the hometowns of these teams. Culminating at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, the championship boasts a rich tapestry of talent and tenacity. The 2024 edition saw Camping World adding to its luster as the title sponsor.
The Challenger Series: A Platform for Prodigies
Running parallel with the Team Series, the Challenger Series, introduced in 2022, serves as a stage for riders aiming for individual glory during the Team Series season. Beyond that, it offers a scouting ground for teams seeking fresh talent or substitutes. The culmination? A riveting championship at South Point Arena in Las Vegas.
Riding Legends and Record Breakers
A perfect bull ride? A mesmerizing score of 100. Yet, for years, 96.5 points seemed the pinnacle. Bubba Dunn first etched that score riding Promise Land in 1999. Chris Shivers matched it not once, but twice, with his iconic rides in 2000 and 2001. Michael Gaffney joined the ranks in 2004. But 2021 turned the tables. A bull named Woopaa became the center of gravity for record-breaking rides. Jose Vitor Leme’s astonishing 97.75-point ride was only the precursor. The crescendo came at the World Finals in Las Vegas, with Leme riding Woopaa to a jaw-dropping 98.75 points.
